Shukla Pratipada
Shukla Pratipada is the name for the first tithi (day in lunar waxing fortnight,) of Shukla paksha and the first day of lunar month. It's good for following works: marriage; house, entering into a house; Pratishta (fame, honour); shaving; Sanskaras like seemantha, tonsure, upanayana; peaceful & developmental works; farming; intoxicant & medicine making; oiling; bed; sitting items (aassan,) stone work, cutting of trees, sculpture, alankar (ornament & decoration works).
According to the classical Muhurta Chintamani and Poorva Kalamrita Agni (Deity that rules fire, consciousness,) and Agni Mahabhutani (primary element of fire)) presides over Shukla Pratipad and is good for all types of auspicious and religious ceremonies. It's nature is Vriddhi Prada, which can be interpreted as "growth giver". Also it's a great day for finding and using solutions. According to Varaha Mihira's Brihat Samhita Brahma (the first deity of Hindu Triad (Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva,) responsible for all creation,) rules Shukla Pratipad, thus everything that's related to creation, religious ceremonies and development is auspicious during this Tithi.
Being Nanda (that can be translated as "prosperity", "good", "happiness") and ruled by Shukra (Venus), the first Tithi of Shukla paksha is suitable for following works or actions: related to clothes; dance, vocal music, festivals, art & sculpture, painting; farming, house, clothes, alankar (ornament, decoration); enjoyments, Tantric Kāryas.
Exceptions:
However there are exceptions to above mentioned variables. Such as, classical sources suggest that one must consult astrologer before doing something important from list of actions suitable for Vriddhi Prada Tithi. It's because of the fact that Shukla Pratipad goes right after Krishna Amavasya and because of that Vriddhi Prada works can be performed only during Krishna Pratipad Tithi.
During the vedic month Bhadrapada Shukla Pratipad becomes Maasa Shoonya Tithi, which is considered inauspicious in succeeding in works started during this Tithi. Lagna (ascendant or rising sign) during Krishna Pratipad becomes Tithi Shoonya (Lagna which is ruined by Tithi) for times when it is Tula (Libra) or Makara (Capricorn). Uttara Ashadha Nakshatra also becomes Tithi Shoonya if it falls on Shukla Pratipad. It's considered that all auspicious works done during Tithi Shoonya periods will be destroyed.
